Morning Encounter

     You board the 7:35
The new sun radiates from the windshield behind
     your golden hair
Some drowsy heads turn to look at your
     polished image
Mine too... but
     only for a moment
Returning to the secrecy of my newspaper
You pass by and the
     smell of you excites me
The sleeve of your coat
     brushes against my shoulder
A forced smile creeps onto
     your face
You look down at me for an instant and
     our eyes meet
but the bus motion hastens you to a seat
Like a coward
     I intently stare at nothing
My mind is a stormy sea
Waves of memories crashing to my shore
Now, we each lose ourselves in the
     morning news
No one knows or would suspect that
     we were lovers once
